This happened a little quicker than we all expected: check this statement from the Council found in the local news pages somewhere - boom!!
At least £165,000 has been earmarked to create a new state of the art skate park for the town’s young people. Some £50,000 from the Government Play Pathfinder scheme, allocated by East Sussex County Council, and £100,000 previously pledged by Hastings Borough Council and set aside until additional funding could be found. The budget also includes a generous donation of £15,000 from the Boyley Trust Fund, who have organised numerous fund raising events over the past 7 years.
Councillor Peter Finch, lead member for Community Well-being, said, “This is something we have wanted to do for some time. The young people have been very patient, and now with funding behind us, we are keen to make their aspirations reality.”
“The present wooden ramps are costly to maintain and wood is not the ideal material in the long term. They were built seven years ago and are in constant need of repair. We will probably be looking at a concrete replacement, which the users of the park have expressed is their preferred material; it also costs less to look after and will last for many more years. The location will be close to the existing facility within White Rock Gardens.”
“We are fortunate to have such an established and vibrant skate park community who will be involved throughout this development process. We will be starting the consultation process for the project in the next six weeks and I will ensure that the proactive young people of Hastings and St. Leonards will be at the centre of the design and development. The new skate park will be dedicated to the memory of Richard ‘Boyley’ Ball who was a popular local BMXer who helped design our current skate park. We can all look forward to seeing a busy, modern skate park
